On September 7th, 1960 School Integration in Roanoke, Virginia  began when  only nine children from four families were accepted by the State Pupil Placement Board.  Two of those children below were those of Rev. R.R. Wilkinson, Nadine Wilkinson (left), Cassandra Wilkinson (right) with their Mother,  Euphesenia Wilkinson (center) approaching Melrose Elementary School.

LINCOLN TERRACE ELEMENTARY  Roanoke, Virginia

On February 9th, 2024, Students from the First Grade Class of teacher TAMMY WILLIAMS celebrated Black History Month in R. R. Wilkinson tee shirts donated by the Foundation . Lincoln Terrace Elementary is located adjacent to and in the Washington Park neighborhood where street Carver Avenue was renamed to R.R Wilkinson Avenue on June 15, 2023.
